Screenshot tricks for macOS

How to take screenshots like a pro

I take screenshots almost every day. I usually want to capture a specific window, but selecting the window area manually is time-consuming and inaccurate. Fortunately, macOS has a built-in solution for taking a screenshot of a window. Here's how to do it:

  1. Press cmd + shift + 4 to capture a portion of a screen.
  2. Instead of selecting an area, press space and hover over any window.
  3. Click to capture.

The captured screenshot contains a shadow. To capture a window without a shadow, press and hold option before clicking.

That's it. Now you know how to take screenshots of any window with or without a shadow.
